With over 35 years as a business lawyer, Eric's dedication to his specialized expertise in the areas of law he practiced have left an indelible mark on our firm and the legal landscape.

A true luminary, Eric's skill in negotiating and documenting complex commercial transactions was unparalleled. His extensive experience, particularly with entrepreneurs, professionals, artists, and financiers showcased his exceptional ability to provide tailored solutions to a diverse range of legal challenges. Mr. Eric Shipman is an Associate Counsel in BBL. Eric practices corporate commercial law and has specialized expertise in the entertainment and technology law fields. During his over 25 years as a business lawyer, Eric has acted for a wide variety of entrepreneurs, professionals, artists and financiers and has acquired extensive experience and skill in negotiating and documenting complex commercial transactions. Eric has exceptional knowledge and ability in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate reorganizations, as well as in real estate, intellectual property and estate planning matters. Eric’s creative perspective, garnered through his work in the entertainment and technology industries, enables him to craft unique solutions to his clients’ most challenging legal matters.

In 1976-77, Eric worked as a researcher and policy advisor at the Ontario Ministry of Energy.
Eric was called to the Alberta bar in 1981 and to the BC bar in 1987.

Eric first practiced as an associate with a major Calgary law firm, then as an associate and partner with a national law firm in Vancouver. In 1993, he was a founding member of a small firm in Vancouver, and in 2004, he continued his practice as an associate counsel at a couple of established Vancouver firms for over 12 years.

Eric is a member of the Entertainment and Business Law sections of the Canadian Bar
Association. He has also previously served as a Director of several publicly-traded corporations.

Eric’s love of travel has taken him to many beautiful places around the world, particularly in developing countries. His hobbies include golf, skiing, and long walks on the beach.
